Nias Island is a beautiful island located in a chain of island parallel to the west coast of Sumatera and part of North Sumatera province. In this province has archipelago consists of 131 islands and Nias Island is the biggest of them.

On November 2011, I had the opportunity to visit Nias Island. It was a prize from a photo contest, a very rare prize and I was very happy that I won that trip. I departed from Denpasar in the morning in the first day then joined the committee who held the contest in Jakarta. Together, we flew to Polonia Airport, Medan, North Sumatera. Arriving in Medan, we had to take a flight again to Binaka Airport, a small airport in Gunung Sitoli that located in Nias Island.

After landing at Binaka Airport, we were picked up by several local guides who will accompany us in Nias Island for 4 days. Our first destination was Nias Heritage Museum. In this museum there were many arts and cultural heritage of Nias. There were some megaliths stone sculptures supposedly hundreds of years old. Taking photographs inside the museum was prohibited, I felt a little disappointed but we had to respect the local rules and regulations. After looking around and knowing the history in Nias Heritage Museum, we were headed to the first motel called Miga Beach Inn, still located in Gunung Sitoli area.
